El a acuzat UE pentru faptul că ţara sa este acum o societate mult mai socialistă, controlată şi reglată decât şi-ar fi putut imagina cu 27 de ani în urmă şi pentru subminarea principiilor unei societăţi libere, prin promovarea conceptelor cum ar fi „ideologia verde”, pe care a denumit-o o alternativă periculoasă la tradiţionala doctrină socialistă.
Preşedintele Vaclav Klaus a criticat UE şi pentru intelectualii sub-educaţi şi pentru ideologia drepturilor omului pe care a denumit-o o negare revoluţionară a drepturilor civice şi o încercare de a submina statul naţional suveran.
