Twitter dă în judecată guvernul SUA, împotriva încercărilor de a demasca un critic al administraţiei Trump
Twitter a anunţat că a înaintat un proces împotriva administraţiei Trump, după ce Departamentul de Securitatea Internă a cerut companiei digitale datele de identificare ale utilizatorului unui cont critic la adresa politicilor noii administraţii de la Casa Albă.
Conform informaţiilor din plângerea depusă de Twitter, contul vizat este „@ALT_USCIS”, unul dintre numeroasele conturi „alt”-guvernamentale ce au apărut în urma ascensiunii lui Trump la preşedenţia Statelor Unite, ce a fost folosit „pentru a exprima critici publice la adresa Departamentului de Securitate Internă şi a Administraţiei actuale”. Presa americană a relatat că prin intermediul acestor conturi, angajaţii guvernamentali din numeroase agenţii de stat au încercat să critice şi să reziste politicilor administraţiei Trump.
Compania din San Francisco a contestat autoritatea legală a unei astfel de cereri, dar mai ales, a subliniat că o astfel de cerere reprezintă o încălcare gravă a libertăţii de exprimare garantate de Primul Amendament al Constituţiei Statelor Unite. În plângerea înaintată Twitter susţine că deconspirarea unui cont într-o astfel de situaţie „ar avea un efect profund de îngheţare a discursului public al acelui cont în particular şi a multor altor astfel de conturi a unor „voci alternative” ce au fost create pentru a protesta politicilor guvernamentale”. Deconspirarea contului ar reprezenta o încălcare a unui discurs politic, protejat de către Constituţie.
Uniunea Americană pentru Libertăţi Civile s-a alăturat acestei acţiuni, susţinând că va înainta propriile obiecţii împotriva acţiunii Departamentului de Securitate Internă.
Informaţia că autorităţile au cerut deconspirarea unei voci critice anonime a produs consternare în rândul avocaţilor drepturilor la liberă exprimare şi viaţă privată, relatează şi ediţia americană a cotidianului The Guardian.
„Faptul că autorităţile, prin juriştii acestor agenţii, nu înţeleg lucrurile esenţiale în protejarea libertăţii de exprimare şi restricţiile legale în vigoare este simplu remarcabil”, a declarat Jennifer Granick, director al Centrului pentru Internet şi Societate Stanford.
„Guvernul nu trebuie să poată face uz de puterile formidabile de investigare pe care le are pentru a intimida sau reduce la tăcere vocile critice”, a declarat şi Andrew Crocker, avocat în cadrul unei alte organizaţii ce apără libertatea de expresie.
