Un document-cheie privind strategia nucleară americană confirmă faptul că Rusia pune la punct cea mai puternică armă nucleară dezvoltată din 1961 încoace. Revizuirea Politicii Nucleare a SUA (Nuclear Posture Review, NPR) este un document aflat încă în lucru, dar într-o copie a acestui proiect scursă în presă se arată că Rusia dezvoltă „o nouă torpilă nucleară intercontinentală autonomă“.
Existenţa acestei arme, numită Kanyon de către Pentagon şi „Sistem Oceanic Multirol Status-6“ de către ruşi a fost depistată într-o filmare „indiscretă“ a televiziunii ruse din noiembrie 2015.
Mai exact, e vorba de ştirea difuzată de Pervîi Kanal (primul canal al televiziunii de stat ruse), despre întâlnirea de la Soci a preşedintelui Vladimir Putin cu principalii comandanţi militari.
În imaginile televiziunii ruse se vede cum unul dintre generali studiază diagrama unui torpile „devastatoare“, numită „Sistem Oceanic Multirol Status-6“.
Potrivit documentului apărut la TV, arma e proiectată „să distrugă instalaţiile economice importante ala inamicului în zonele de coastă şi să asigure devastarea teritoriului ţării inamice prin contaminarea radioactivă a unor regiuni întinse, care ar deveni astfel inutilizabile pe termen lung pentru scopuri militare, economice sau orice alte activităţi“.
Scurgere sau manipulare?
La vremea respectivă, Kremlinul a ţinut să „confirme“ că a fost vorba de o scurgere de informaţii: „E adevărat că în filmare au apărut informaţii secrete, de aceea aceasta a fost ştearsă“, a declarat Dmitri Perskov, purtătorul de cuvânt al preşedinţiei ruse.
Un an mai târziu, în decembrie 2016, a avut loc o altă scurgere „accidentală“ de informaţii referitoare la torpila nucleară: era vorba de testarea efectivă a acestei arme, de pe un submarin din clasa Sarov.
Toate acesta au alimentat, în rândul analiştilor din serviciile secrete occidentale, speculaţia că e de fapt vorba de scurgeri de informaţii dirijate, menite să semnaleze Statelor Unite opoziţia Rusiei faţă de planurile americane privind sistemul antirachetă din Europa.
În acel moment – decembrie 2016 – analiştii respectivi apreciau că, din cauza limitărilor tehnice existente în prezent în Rusia, industria de apărare rusească nu va putea pune la punct „torpila Apocalipsei“ înainte de 2025.
Între timp, lucrurile au evoluat rapid, fie pentru că seviciile de informaţii occidentale au obţinut date mai consistente, fie deoarece complexul militaro-industrial din Rusia şi-a depăşit anumite limite.
Cert e că informaţiile despre torpila nucleare Kanyon au depăşit faza speculaţiilor, iar existenţa ei este certificată într-un document oficial al Pentagonului, datat ianuarie 2018, ea fiind listată ca parte a arsenalului nuclear submarin al Rusiei.
Peste 6.000 de Hiroshime
Torpila nucleară Kanyon este, de fapt, un vehicul subacvatic autonom cu rază foarte lungă de acţiune, de circa 10.000 de kilometri, cu o adâncime maximă de operare de 1.000 de metri şi cu o viteză maximă de 100 de noduri (185 de kilometri pe oră), potrivit datelor din documentele ruseşti.
Dar ceea ce o face cu adevărat o torpilă „a Apocalipsei“ este încărcătura sa: o bombă termonucleară cu o putere de 100 de megatone. Pentru comparaţie, bomba atomică lansată la Hiroshima avea 16 kilotone, adică echivalentul a 16.000 de tone de trinitrotoluen.
Torpila Kanyon ar avea echivalentul a 100.000.000 de tone de trinitrotoluen, adică de 6.250 de ori cât cea de la Hiroshima, sau două ori mai mult decât Bomba Ţar, cea mai puternică detonată vreodată.

Bomba Ţar, aşa cum a fost numită de occidentali bomba termonucleară sovietică RDS-220, avea o putere de 50 de megatone, a fost detonată la 30 octombrie 1961, la o altitudine de 4,2 kilometri, după lansarea dintr-un bombardier Tupolev Tu-95V modificat.

Unda de şoc s-a propagat la peste 900 km distanţă, spărgând geamuri în Finlanda şi Norvegia, iar căldura exploziei ar fi putut provoca arsuri de gradul trei la 100 km de epicentru.
În fine, deşi a fost detonată mult deasupra solului, Bomba Ţar a provocat un cutremur cu magnitudinea de 5,2 pe scara Richter.
Experţii au ţinut cont de datele colectate la detonarea Bombei Ţar şi, extrapolând pentru torpila Kanyon, au estimat că o explozie de 100 de megatone la New York ar ucide instantaneu peste 8 milioane de oameni şi ar răni alte cel puţin 6 milioane.
Un tsunami cu cobalt-60
Raza de acţiune şi încărcătura torpilei Kanyon sunt mult mai mari decât în cazul torpilelor convenţionale aflate în uz în prezent.

Acest tip de submarin cu o construcţie unică nu are tuburi lanstorpilă proprii, ci poartă torpilele sau „vehiculele subacvatice autonome“, cum este Kanyon, ataşate în exteriorul cocii.
