„Americanii bogați – medici, avocați, antreprenori și mari proprietari – cred că Partidul Republican judecă greșit când vrea să reducă impozitele pentru cele mai înstărite familii, într-un moment în care datoria publică este mare și inegalitățile sociale au ajuns la nivelul din anii 1920“, se arată într-o scrisoare semnată, printre alții, de George Soros și Steven Rockefeller, potrivit The Washington Post.
Inițiativa vine din partea asociației „Bogăția responsabilă“. Semnatarii susțin că nu trebuie redusă taxa de succesiune, acolo unde legislația actuală prevede deja impozitarea doar a moștenirilor care depășesc 5,49 de milioane de dolari sau 11 milioane de dolari, în cazul cuplurilor.
Gestul miliardarilor din SUA este considerat fie salutar, fie ipocrit. Recent, George Soros a ajuns pe prima pagină a ziarelor cu decizia sa de a transfera Fundației pentru o Societate Deschisă 18 miliarde de dolari din cele 26 de miliarde deținute de Soros Fund Management.
