INVESTIGAŢIE RISE PROJECT: „TOȚI OAMENII GENERALULUI” | PRIMUL TUN AL GENERALULUI OPREA
1. Revoluția l-a prins ofițer activ, angajat ca economist în ministerul apărării ceaușist. A continuat apoi ca ofițer în justiția militară până în 1993, când a trecut prima oară în rezervă, devenind om de afaceri. În primii ani ai tranziției, căpitanul Gabriel Oprea s-a asociat cu mai mulți cetățeni străini în timp ce îl frecventa și pe influentul lider al minerilor, Miron Cozma. A fost doar începutul.
2. În timp, afacerile l-au propulsat pe Oprea în fruntea “mafiei personale a lui Adrian Năstase” după cum îl acuza chiar Traian Băsescu în 2004. Din business, s-a întors în armată, apoi din nou în rezervă și imediat în politică. PSD l-a numit șef al Rezervelor Statului, prefect de București, ministru delegat în guvernul Năstase și l-a trimis în Parlament.
3. A fost deputat de două ori și, din momentul în care Băsescu l-a reevaluat, Gabriel Oprea a început să joace în liga mare a politicii: vicepremier, ministru de Interne și al Apărării. E peste tot, apare lângă cei mai importanți oameni ai momentului și face și desface guverne prin cel de-al treilea mare grup politic din Parlamentul României, pe care-l conduce cu mână de fier.

A ținut să aibă și o etichetă academică, astfel că, din postura sa de profesor coordonator de doctorate, i-a călăuzit spre titlul de doctor pe oameni-cheie din serviciile secrete și pe mai mulți politicieni care s-au perindat apoi în fruntea ministerelor de Interne și Apărare. Și-a ocupat poziția în societate pe baza relației cu Ministerul Apărării Naționale (MApN). A adunat o avere uriașă, din care sute de mii de euro dispar și apar, fie sub forma unor donații, fie pur și simplu, fără nicio explicație.
5. „Toți oamenii generalului” este un proiect jurnalistic menit să scoată la lumină trecutul lui Gabriel Oprea și conexiunile acestuia în politică, servicii secrete, justiție, mediul academic și cel de business.
Succesul lui Oprea a venit imediat după căderea regimului comunist. La Revoluție, Gabriel Oprea are 29 de ani și stă în București, într-un apartament la bloc în sectorul 5. În 1990 termină facultatea și devine ofițer activ de justiție militară.
Doi ani mai târziu, Oprea este angajat la Ministerul Apărării Naționale, la Direcția „Logistică” – la „spatele Armatei” , așa cum este ea cunoscută în jargon militar – și își începe drumul spre fabuloasa avere pe care o declară astăzi.
Documentele descoperite și analizate de jurnaliștii RISE Project și Centrul de Investigații Media arată că, în ianuarie 1992, ofițerul Gabriel Oprea dirijează o adevărată odisee imobiliară. Împreună cu un grec de origine română, Oprea face o asociație de locatari care preia de la stat un bloc început pe vremea lui Ceaușescu și se folosește de soldați ca să-l termine. La blocul lui Oprea ajung astfel să lucreze militarii care construiseră și Casa Poporului.
Pentru a finanța lucrările, Oprea atrage în asociație mai multe persoane și firme cu trecut suspect, care primesc, în schimbul banilor băgați în afacere, apartamente în bloc. Așa ajunge Oprea partener de afaceri cu un libanez controversat din cauza legăturilor sale cu traficul de droguri și cu spionajul rusesc, informații confirmate și de sursele noastre. Lângă Oprea și libanezul Hussein Hassan a venit și o firmă controlată, teoretic, de cetățeni străini condamnați ulterior pentru evaziune fiscală și spălare de bani – în numele căreia semnează, însă, chiar Gabriel Oprea. O firmă de stat care a făcut afaceri cu oligarhi ruși sau firma unui italian judecat la el acasă pentru trafic de persoane apar și ele în afacerea blocului lui Oprea.
În blocul T1B, aflat pe Calea 13 Septembrie, la câteva sute de metri de Ministerul Apărării Naționale și Casa Poporului, Oprea mai are și astăzi două apartamente și un spațiu comercial.
