Noua Bancă pentru Dezvoltare (NDB) s-a lansat la Shanghai și este văzută drept o alternativă la Banca Mondială şi FMI, deși grupul BRICS susţine că NDB nu rivalizează cu acestea.
Ţările BRICS, Brazilia, Rusia, India, China şi Africa de Sud, au criticat Banca Mondială şi FMI pentru că nu acordă statelor aflate în dezvoltare drepturi de vot suficiente.
NDB urmează să acorde primele împrumuturi la începutul anului viitor.
Inaugurarea băncii are loc la două săptămâni după summitul BRICS din oraşul rus Ufa, unde au fost stabilite ultimele detalii.
Banca va avea un capital iniţial de 50 de miliarde de dolari, iar suma s-ar putea dubla în anii următori.
Cel mai mare contributor al NDB va fi China, a doua mare economie a lumii, care a condus şi înfiinţarea unei alte bănci internaţionale, Asian Infrastructure Development Bank din Beijing.
