Atunci când a fost vorba de revoltele din Tunisia, Egipt sau Libia, ori de mega înscenări de genul uciderii lui Osama Bin Laden, mass-media de pretutindeni şi de la noi nu au mai contenit cu relatările, reportajele şi dezbaterile televizate. În cazul Islandei însă a fost o tăcere totală.
Iată o traducere, care circulă pe Internet, a unui articol spaniol care prezintă derularea evenimentelor în cazul revoluţiei din Islanda:
În Islanda, ţara în care Guvernul a fost demis în totalitate, marile bănci au fost naţionalizate, s-a decis să nu se plătească datoria creată în Marea Britanie şi Olanda, din cauza politicii lor financiare rău intenţionate şi s-a creat un grup popular pentru a rescrie Constituţia.
Şi toate acestea paşnic. O revoluţie împotriva puterii care ne-a adus la criza actuală. De ce aceste fapte nu au devenit cunoscute de doi ani? Ce se întâmplă dacă alţi cetăţeni UE vor lua exemplu? Iată pe scurt, istoria evenimentelor:
2008. Se naţionalizează cea mai mare bancă din ţară. Se prăbuşeşte moneda, bursa îşi suspendă activitatea. Ţara este în stare de faliment.
2009. Protestele populare din faţa Parlamentului fac să fie convocate alegeri anticipate şi provoacă demisia primului-ministru şi a membrilor Guvernului în bloc. Continuă situaţia economica nefavorabilă.
