Britanicul din spatele documentarelor „Wild Carpathia” crede că România este cea mai frumoasă țară din Europa
Paul Lister este un englez care a văzut potenţialul „ascuns” pe care îl are România. El a avut ideea celebrelor documentare despre România, „Wild Carpathia”, difuzate în peste 100 de ţări. Crede că România este unică datorită pădurilor pe care nicio altă naţiune din Europa nu le mai are. A fondat un centru educaţional mobil, o şcoală pe patru roţi, unde copiii învaţă de ce este important să protejeze mediul înconjurător şi de ce România este un loc deosebit. Paul Lister crede în România civilizată.
România este singura ţară din Europa care mai are păduri virgine, aproape 250 de mii de hectare. De aceea, UNESCO a propus ca acest patrimoniu să primească titlul de monument natural protejat. Avem o bogăţie inestimabilă, însă nu ştim să avem grijă de ea.
Paul Lister luptă să conserve și să promoveze aceste păduri unice, care astăzi sunt în mare pericol din cauza defrișărilor. El este fondatorul organizației The European Nature Trust. A venit cu ideea realizării unor documentare despre România care, ulterior, au făcut înconjurul lumii, „Wild Carpathia”. Pentru el, civilizația înseamnă ca omul să traiască în armonie cu natura.
„Mulţi oameni cred că România este o ţară săracă, pentru mine ea este cel mai bogat loc din Europa. Îmi dedic cam 80% din timp acestor cauze de mediu, mai ales aici, în România”, spune Paul Lister.
Paul Lister este multimilionar și a moștenit averea de la tatăl său. Investește o mare parte din bani în proiectele de mediu din lumea întreagă.
„Noi depindem de natură, aşa că dacă poţi trăi în armonie cu natura, asta înseamnă civilizaţie pentru mine, nu oraşele din beton, nu peisajele distruse”, argumentează el.
La fel ca el crede și prințul Charles, un adevărat ambasador al României, pentru care România pare desprinsă din povești.
Nu au mai rămas astfel de locuri nicăieri. Natura este o bijuterie în coroana României. Chiar dacă oamenii nu realizează asta, eu cred că România este o ţară minunată.
„Sunt sătul de oamenii care dau României o reputaţie proastă, iar românii, pentru mine, sunt unii dintre cei mai mândri şi drăguţi oameni pe care îi cunosc”, spune Paul Lister.
Cu toate că vine în România încă din anul 1984, Paul a vizitat pentru prima oară Muzeul Satului din București în această toamnă. Acolo s-a întâlnit întâmplător cu Charlie Ottley, realizatorul documentarelor Wild Carpathia și cu producătorul acestora, Alasdair Grant. Încă o dovadă că acești oameni sunt dedicați misiunii lor de a face din România un loc cunoscut și apreciat.
„Cred că acest program le-a arătat celorlalţi cum sunt românii, România este un loc minunat în care să vii şi pe care să îl vizitezi şi este un loc la care să te gândeşti că are un peisaj valoros care poate fi conservat pentru ecoturism, în opoziţie cu afacerile cu păduri”, mărturisește Paul Lister.
